The Blue Marlin Seafood Restaurant is owned and run by husband and wife team Alison and Steve Hyatt. It is situated in the heart of the urbanisation of Torrenueva, just 400 meters from El Bombo beach and a beautiful 15 minute stroll along the Paseo Maritimo from La Cala and 20 minutes from Calahonda. We opened the restaurant in May 2015 after relocating from Dundee in Scotland. We love spending time with great friends and family, good food, fine wine, classic cars, formula 1 and Spain.

Steve has been a chef for 46 years having started his career on the Q.E. II luxury liner as a Cunard apprentice for 4 years. This ensured the continuation of the family tradition of being in the hospitality industry. Steve can trace his family connections in hospitality back to 1760. Steve’s talent and skill has allowed him to work in some of the best hotels around the world. Over this time he has received many awards, his achievements include being the first British chef to be awarded The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs award in South Africa whilst working for Southern Sun Hotels and as Executive Chef at The Randolf Hotel, Oxford gaining 3 AA Rosettes. His passion for and creativity with food and exacting attention to detail ensure every dish is perfectly crafted.

Steve’s son Craig is continuing the family tradition, after working for us in Scotland he spent a year working in Disney, Florida and he is now living in Canada and working as a food and beverage director at The Millcroft Hotel with Vintage Inns in Ontario.

My career started at the age of 11 – I was tall enough then to see over the counter of my dad’s shop - I was always destined to be in the service industry! My catering career started at 17 years old on the beautiful Isle of Arran at the Kinloch Hotel, from there I went on to achieve a BA degree in Hotel Management at Napier. My career has been customer and product focused and my various roles covered all aspects of the hospitality business. I was also fortunate enough to have 10 great years as a volunteer fire fighter with Strathclyde Fire Brigade on Gigha and at Kilmelford.

We have had the pleasure of working together for the last 28 years. We met in Aviemore and started our career as a couple at The Lock & Quay at Hythe, Southampton then moved to manage The Isle of Gigha Hotel on the stunning West of Scotland where we were married. In 1993 we took on The Shower of Herring Inn on Loch Melfort in Melfort Village time share where we spent 9 great, fun-filled years. We relocated to Dundee on the East coast in 2004 where we lived for 10 years. The Blue Marlin was opened in 2006 in Monifieth, after 6 successful years we relocated to the City Quay in Dundee city centre and were awarded Dundee Restaurant of the year in 2012 and Seafood Restaurant of the year in UK by Open Table. We love making people happy by providing great food, in comfort with friendly service.

Our menu reflects the influences of Steve’s travels, classical training and the wonderful Spanish produce. Our wine list is 90% Spanish and reflects the diversity and superb quality of the new, innovative wine makers of Spain.
